Composition of the drug:

The drug has a sedative effect, restores the macrostructure of sleep, stabilizes vegetative functions. Means of plant origin. The action is due to the ester of borneol and isovaleric acid, valapotrium and alkaloids (valerine, hotenin). The drug improves the effectiveness and quality of sleep. The sedative effect appears slowly but fairly stable. Valerian acid and valapotriates have a weak spasmolytic effect. In addition, a complex of biologically active substances valerian medicinal has a choleretic effect, enhances the secretory activity of the mucous membrane of the digestive tract, slows down the cardiac rhythm and expands coronary vessels. The regulation of cardiac activity is carried out through neurohumoral mechanisms and direct influence on automatism and the conducting system of the heart. Therapeutic effect is manifested in systematic and long-term course treatment. The drug causes a decrease in the spontaneous and increased excitability of the central nervous system, has a moderate anticonvulsant effect. The drug does not have a local irritating effect.

Indications for use.

Increased nervous excitability, insomnia; in the form of combined therapy - with mild functional disorders from the cardiovascular system.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to valerian or to other components of the drug; arterial hypotension; depression or other conditions accompanied by oppression of the central nervous system, drowsiness; cholelithiasis.

Properly applied safety measures.

Do not exceed recommended doses of the drug. When using the drug, refrain from drinking alcohol. Patients who have severe liver problems or have had a severe liver disease in the past should be careful when taking the drug. Valeriana may have a moderate depressive effect, so co-administration of the drug with synthetic sedative agents is not recommended due to potentiation of the effect. With pronounced atherosclerosis of the cerebellum, the drug can be used only under the supervision of a doctor. There may be a specific sensitivity to the valerian smell.

Method of administration and dose.

Overdose

Symptoms: increased fatigability, general weakness, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, cramps and abdominal pain, nausea, feeling of squeezing in the chest, tachycardia, tremor and enlargement of the pupils, reduced hearing and vision.

Treatment: stop using the drug, rinse the stomach, take activated charcoal. If necessary, to conduct symptomatic therapy. There have been reports of the development of the withdrawal syndrome (delirium) after receiving very high doses of valerian root for several years (approximately 30 g per day).

Side effects.

Digestive tract: nausea, diarrhea, spasm and pain in the abdominal cavity, with prolonged use, oppression of the digestive process, constipation is possible. Hepatobiliary system: hepatotoxicity is possible.

Allergic reactions: with individual hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation possible skin rashes, itching, urticaria, flushing, edema, shortness of breath.

Side effects occur very rarely, are reversible, usually develop during application of the drug for a long time and significantly exceeding recommended doses. If any unwanted effects occur, the patient should consult a doctor.

Interaction with other drugs and other types of interactions.

Valerik strengthens the effect of sleeping pills, tranquilizers, sedative, anxiolytic, painkillers, antispasmodics, antihypertensive agents of central action, neuroleptics, ethyl alcohol, nootropic drugs, anesthetic drugs, curar-like muscle relaxants. Joint use with synthetic sedative medications is not recommended. You should also avoid concomitant alcohol use.
