Corwaldine is a soothing and antispasmodic drug, the action of which is determined by its constituent components.

Ethyl ester of α-bromizovaleric acid has sedative and spasmolytic effects due to irritation of the receptors of the oral cavity and nasopharynx, a decrease in reflex excitability in the central parts of the nervous system and an increase in inhibition in neurons of the cortex and subcortical structures of the brain, as well as a decrease in the activity of the vasomotor centers and direct local antispasmodic action on the smooth muscles of the vessels.

Phenobarbital inhibits the stimulating effect of the centers of the reticular formation on the cortex of the cerebral hemispheres. Calming, tranquilizing and hypnotic effects depend on the dose of the drug.

Mint oil and hop oil have a reflex vasodilator and spasmolytic effect, irritating the "cold" receptors of the oral cavity, have choleretic and spasmolytic effects and eliminate the phenomena of flatulence.

Ethyl alcohol enhances the effects of each of the components.

Corvaldine is a sedative that can be used in a state of excitement, fear, nervousness, imbalance and anxiety; Favorably acts on activity of the overloaded and excited heart; well tolerated by the body, if you adhere to the doses prescribed by the doctor. Taking the drug reduces the excitation of the central nervous system and facilitates the onset of sleep.

Corvaldine reduces total blood pressure, reduces and prevents spasms of blood vessels, mainly blood vessels of the heart and brain.

Indications for use.

  • Neuroses with increased irritability;
  • insomnia;
  • in the complex therapy of hypertension and vegetovascular dystonia;
  • indistinctly expressed spasms of the coronary vessels, tachycardia;
  • spasms of the intestine (as an antispasmodic drug).

Long-term use of Corvaldine is not recommended because of the danger of developing drug dependence, possible accumulation of bromine in the body.

It should be used with caution in arterial hypotension.

Special caveats.

Use during pregnancy and lactation. Do not use during pregnancy and during lactation.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or working with other machinery.

Contains 62% by volume alcohol, as well as phenobarbital, which can cause disruption of coordination and speed of psychomotor reactions, so when taking the drug should refrain from working with mechanisms and driving the car.

Children.

Experience with the treatment of children is absent.

Method of administration and dose.

Take in front of food for 15-30 drops with a small amount (30-50 ml) of liquid 2-3 times a day. Single dose, if necessary, can be increased to 40-50 drops.

The duration of the drug is determined by the doctor depending on the clinical effect and the tolerability of the drug.

Overdose.

Overdose is possible with frequent or prolonged use of the drug, which is due to the cumulation of its components. Long-term and constant use causes dependence, withdrawal syndrome, psychomotor agitation. A sudden discontinuation of the drug may cause withdrawal symptoms.

Symptoms of overdose: central nervous system depression, confusion, dizziness, ataxia, drowsiness, down to deep sleep. In severe cases of poisoning - violation of breathing, tachycardia, arrhythmia, lowering blood pressure, collapse, coma.

Treatment: symptomatic.

Side effects.

Corvaldin, as a rule, well tolerated. In some cases, there may be side effects:

from the digestive tract: discomfort in the stomach and intestines, nausea;

from the nervous system: drowsiness, mild dizziness, decreased concentration of attention;

from the side of the immune system: allergic reactions;

from the cardiovascular system: slowing of the heart rate.

These phenomena are eliminated by reducing the dose.

With prolonged use, there may be a dependence on the drug and the phenomenon of bromism. Symptoms: depression of the central nervous system, depression, apathy, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, acne, hemorrhagic diathesis, impaired coordination, confusion.

Interaction with other drugs and other types of interactions.

Drugs that have a depressing effect on the central nervous system, strengthen the action of Corvaldine. The presence of phenobarbital in the drug can induce liver enzymes, so it is undesirable to use it together with drugs that are metabolized in the liver (coumarin derivatives, griseofulvin, glucocorticoids, oral contraceptives), as their effectiveness will decrease as a result of a higher metabolic rate.

Corvaldin enhances the action of local anesthetics, analgesics and hypnotics, this is due to the content of barbituric acid derivatives.

With simultaneous application with valproic acid, its effect is enhanced.

When used with methotrexate, its toxicity is increased.

Alcohol enhances the effect of the drug and its toxicity.
