Treatment of orthostatic tachycardia
Author Ольга Кияница
Orthostatic tachycardia as a disease is not fully understood. According to one conclusion, it develops due to the disorder of baroreceptors located in the vessels of the lower extremities. By the other - due to vegetative-vascular disorders, strong emotions and other psychological disorders.
During orthostatic tachycardia, a rapid heartbeat is felt after moving from a horizontal position to a vertical one. At the same time, the pulse is usually elevated, whereas the arterial pressure is normal or reduced.
Prognostic value for orthostatic tachycardia is favorable. The only thing that does not immediately succeed is to make the correct diagnosis, because of which the patient has a long time to undergo various studies. Different methods are used for treatment, while arrhythmic drugs are not always helpful.

To begin with, the patient should exclude provocative factors that often contribute to the development of orthostatic tachycardia. It has been noted that in patients, the presented violation of the rhythm is determined by dehydration, that is, dehydration or hypovolaemia. Therefore, to remove this condition, mineralocorticoids or salt diets should be used. An increase in salt in the diet is possible only in the absence of heart failure, kidney disease, arterial hypertension.
During prolonged immobilization, that is, immobilization, metabolic processes are also disturbed, which may lead to signs of orthostatic tachycardia. If a person often and for a long time to sit in a sedentary position, and then sharply rises, in many cases it provokes tachycardia, dizziness and other symptoms of the disease. To prevent this, it should be raised calmly, and in case of severe symptoms, the rhythm disorder should be raised sideways or from a sedentary position.
Moderate physical activity is often recommended for patients with orthostatic tachycardia. Useful types of activities such as swimming and rowing, where there is no need to be in a vertical position. Also, the contrast shower, aromatherapy helps.
Medicinal treatment of orthostatic tachycardia
With such a rhythm disturbance in extreme cases antiarrhythmic drugs are prescribed. In addition, they often turn out to be ineffective. Therefore, the main thing in the treatment of orthostatic tachycardia is to identify the cause that caused it.
With the appearance of a rapid heart beat on the background of thyrotoxicosis, methylthiouracil is used. Mercazolil, radioactive iodine-containing drugs. If the cause of arrhythmia is heart failure, then digitalis is prescribed. Different heart defects and rheumatic carditis also provoke the development of orthostatic tachycardia and then reserpine and pyramidone are used.
According to various studies, the following drugs may be effective in the treatment of orthostatic tachycardia:
- Middrin (refers to adrenergic antagonists).
- Propranolol (is a beta-blocker, taking starts with small doses and gradually bringing up to 30 mg in one treatment).
Some researchers point to the positive effect of testing on the pivot table, in particular, the frequency of heart rate is improved. But to this end this method of treatment has not been studied.
Treatment of orthostatic tachycardia by methods of psychotherapy
Often used for neurogenic etiology of rhythm disturbance. First and foremost, these include stresses, frequent excitement, uncertainty and depression. Assigned only in the case if from the cardiologic point of view the patient "everything is in order." That is, there are no significant violations in the work of the cardiovascular system, and the patient, besides the heartbeat, does not worry much more.
In the process of conducting psychotherapy, an individual approach is used, where all the exciting sick moments are first discovered. Further, depending on the complexity of the situation, an autotraining, positive psychotherapy, cognitive psychotherapy and other methods of influencing the psychological state of the patient are conducted.
When observing the medical recommendations, it is possible to recover quite quickly from an uncomfortable state. In the absence of organic heart lesions, no effects from the disease are observed.
